RodasLa Isla de Rodas es la más grande del archipiélago del Dodecaneso, en el Mar Egeo. Tiene 78 kilómetros de largo por 38 de ancho y unos 82.000 habitantes.
Custodiando su puerto, se encontraba el Coloso de Rodas, una gran estatua de bronce que fue una de las Siete Maravillas del Mundo Antiguo.

Dodecaneso
El Dodecaneso (topónimo griego que significa Doce Islas) es uno de los archipiélagos griegos del Mar Egeo, sus principales islas son: Rodas, Karpatos, Kasos, Simi, Tilos, Nisiros, Astipalea, Kos, Kalymnos, Leros, Patmos y Kastelorizo.
Mar Egeo
El mar Egeo es la parte del mar Mediterráneo comprendida entre Grecia y Turquía.
Se considera que este mar está delimitado al sur por la isla de Creta y la de Rodas. Por lo arbitrario de su "límite" sur, es difícil atribuirle una superficie exacta. Un valor muy aproximativo sería 180 000 km². De norte a sur, su extensión máxima es de 600 km, y de este a oeste es de 400 km.
La casi totalidad de las numerosas islas del mar Egeo pertenecen a Grecia, por lo que se puede considerar que este mar es un mar interior de Grecia (al 95 %), lo que es fuente de frecuentes conflictos diplomáticos entre los dos países.
El turismo es la actividad económica principal de estas islas, que representan la quinta parte de la superficie de Grecia, pero la mitad de su capacidad hotelera.
Su nombre viene del legendario rey Egeo de Atenas, quien, al creer que su hijo Teseo había sido devorado por el Minotauro en su laberinto, se ahogó en este mar.

BronceEl bronce es el nombre con el que se denominan toda una serie de aleaciones metálicas que tienen como base el cobre y proporciones variables de otros elementos como estaño, zinc, aluminio, antimonio, fósforo, y otros con objeto de obtener unas características de dureza superior al cobre.
Por su elevado calor específico, el mayor de todos los sólidos, se emplea en aplicaciones de transferencia de calor
El bronce es el elemento sólido más ligero y se emplea especialmente en aleaciones conductoras del calor, en baterías eléctricas y, sus sales, en el tratamiento de ciertos tipos de depresión.
Fue la primera aleación fabricada conscientemente: consistía en mezclar el mineral de cobre (calcopirita, malaquita etc.) y el de estaño (casiterita) en un horno alimentado con carbón vegetal. El Anhídrido carbónico resultante reducia los minerales a metales: Cobre y Estaño que se fundían y aleaban entre un 5 y un 10% en peso de estaño.
De bronce fueron las primeras armas y herramientas; también se utilizó como soporte para la escritura y para fabricar estatuas.
